If you are expecting a book like those within the New Species series this is not it. While I have read every book Ms. Dohner put out and loved most of them this was a huge disappointment. I have no clue what she was trying to do with this book but it was underdeveloped, the characters were just stupid or annoying and the world she created was boring. With her Cyborg series or New Species series there were characters and plots you could get into. You WANTED to read the book. You wanted to finish the story and then craved the next one. This book was so boring and so dare I say the word childish - I didn't want to finish it. I kept hoping it would get better but it never did. If it didn't have her name on the book I would swear it was not a book written by Ms. Dohner but by someone with absolutely no writing ability.Product details

Drantos VLG Volume 1 Laurann Dohner Books Reviews
I just finished Laurann Dohner's newest release and have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed her take on vampires, lycans, and gargoyles. This book was well thought and full of plot points that kept my attention from beginning to end. I adored the protagonists -- both the males and the females. Drantos will make you swoon and Kraven will make you chomp at the bit to get his story into your hands. If you love sassy heroines, Dusti and Bat will not let you down. These girls are FEISTY and keep the boys on their toes. There is a bad boy that you will also fall in love with in the series, Aveoth. You are quite sure what to think about him but he is definitely book boyfriend material. (I'm claiming him in advance ;))
For fans of Dohner's New Species series, THIS IS NOT IT! Please clear your mental slate before reading Drantos and do not expect to find common themes found in the NS series -- which is brilliant in my opinion. It's a new series so I enjoyed the fact that it was completely different.
If you're in the mood for something paranormal romance-ish, I highly recommend Drantos for your #oneclicking finger!

Through her eyes we are introduced to a brand-new interpretation of others in Drantos, a paranormal romance novel. Drantos is fast-paced with unexpected twists and turns that are completely unforeseen. It begins with a plane crash in the wilds of Alaska. In this story Dusti and Drantos, the story’s principal couple, fights their initial attraction to one another. However, as we all know resistance is futile in Ms. Dohner’s books. This is their journey in finding love, acceptance and happily ever after.
I’m always searching for a new perspective on classic paranormal folklore. When Ms. Dohner announced her new series, I was excited and as I read the story I was not disappointed with her fresh take on paranormal legend and the beings she created. The world she produced is complex and intriguing. Dusti and her sister Batina lost their parents and their only living relative is their estranged grandfather. Dusti never liked or trusted him. He treated her with distain, yet when Batina hears he is dying, she wants to try to be there for him. The moment they are on the plane their destiny is change forever. Secrets unfold as the hidden past is revealed and lives will be at stake!
I could not put this book down, and it’s not a short read. The concept and characters along with the world they inhabit is masterfully fashioned by this master storyteller. It kept me enthralled and longing for more. The suspense, drama and mystery are enough to keep you reading, but the simmering and smoldering sexual intensity between the characters will have you panting until the end. I’m looking forward to reading Batina and Kraven’s story. Fabulous addition to my library!
And that's a great thing! I wasn't sure what to expect with so much thrown in there (vampires, gargoyles, werewolves, and combos of all of those things), but was happily surprised. The first book has some suspense but it's overall rather simple in plot. It introduces characters and gives us a look at their world, and it's dark sometimes, and moody, and kind of raw. And I just loved the overall feel. I wasn't expecting or wanting the same voice from her New Species books, so wasn't disappointed like other readers who were expecting something similar to NS (which is just silly). So I applaud her for writing something different and breaking away from the mold and making this series so different from her other series with her publisher. The men are still alpha, that's for sure! And it's still sexy, and there are hints that the next book (the other sister's book) might be even more exciting. and I can't wait! And I can't wait for Aveoth's book!! Overall, I think it's a really great, really solid start to a super complex new world. Thank you!
